Modernizing the Electric Power Distribution System to Enable a Clean Energy Future

This talk will begin by providing a historical context to the evolution of the electric grid and the challenges that it has overcome during the past century. It will then highlight the present and future challenges – classified as ‘transformative’ – and the need to make the grid more resilient, reliable, with the ability to interconnect growing amount of distributed energy resources. Through case studies the impact of solar on the traditional electric grid will be discussed along with examples of projects that provide solutions to these challenges – such as Volt-Var optimization techniques and Utility Scale Batteries.
