IEEE Region 1 Student Leadership Training Workshop
On Saturday December 6, 2014, the Student Activities Committee of Region 1 hosted the region-wide Student Leadership Training Workshop (SLTW). This workshop had attendance from across the Region. Students and advisors from several universities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts attended the event. Region 1 sponsored the two night hotel stay for all attendees who had requested it.
The event started with opening remarks by Babak Beheshti, 2014 IEEE R1 Student Activities Chair, followed by an introductory talk by Mr. Vince Socci, R1 Director. The morning session was devoted to IEEE’s role in student leadership development, student branch management and IEEE resources available to student volunteers and leaders.
The afternoon session was focused on career development of students and was moderated by John Hyde, Amy Bravo, Adrienne McNally and Jeremy Ducos, all from the Office of Career Services at New York Institute of Technology.
Feedback from attendees indicated high satisfaction level of the event and a powerful array of talks and presentations from Soon Wan, Region 1 Membership Development Chair; Charles Rubenstein, Region 1 Secretary; Parshva Bavishi, Student Branch Development Specialist; Babak Beheshti, Region 1 Student Activities Chair; Peter Eckstein, IEEE-USA President Elect; Bala Prasanna, Region 1 Treasurer; Richard Mortimore, NYIT, OW IEEE Student Branch President; and Robert Vice, Region 1 Young Professionals Coordinator.
