41st IEEE EDS Activities in Western New York Conference

November 10, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm

Co-sponsored by: Photonics Society

The focus of this conference is to bring engineers and researchers together to share information on a wide variety of topics related to microelectronic devices and systems.  The conference will be a joint event technically co-sponsored by the Electron Devices Society and the Photonics Society of the IEEE Rochester Chapters.  The conference will be held at RIT in the University Gallery in Booth Hall.

The conference agenda will begin at 10:30AM, and the first invited presentation will follow opening remarks at 11AM.  There are four invited talks separated by lunch and an afternoon coffee break.  Student presenters will showcase their work at a poster session reception following the technical presentations.  Closing remarks will be at 4:30PM.

See our website for the conference registration, invited talk details and the latest agenda updates!

Lunch will be served at noon to those that pre-register on vTools by November 7th.

Speaker(s): Anthony J. Yu, PhD, Dr. Rama Vetury

Agenda:

Invited Speakers:

We are exceedingly pleased to have the following invited speakers for this event.

Rama Vetury, Akoustis, Inc., “Acoustic Wave Technology Enabling the Internet of Things”

Todd D. Krauss, University of Rochester, “Colloidal Semiconductor Nanocrystal Photocatalysts: Teaching an Old Dot New Tricks”

Anthony Yu, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, “GlobalFoundries 300mm Silicon Photonics Foundry”

Jung-Hun Seo, University at Buffalo, “Single Crystalline Semiconductor Nanomembrane-Based Fast Flexible Electronics & Optoelectronics”

Santosh K. Kurinec, Rochester Institute of Technology, “Monitoring an Operating Photovoltaic System during the Solar Eclipse of August 21, 2017” (lunch presentation)

The power output of a 4.85 kW residential photovoltaic (PV) system located in Rochester, NY is monitored during the partial eclipse of August 21, 2017. The data is compared with the data on a day before and on the same day, a year ago. The area of exposed solar disk is measured using astrophotography every 16 second of the eclipse. Global solar irradiance is estimated using the eclipse shading, time of the day, location coordinates, atmospheric conditions and panel orientation. The observed data on the PV energy produced compared with the model will be presented.

Santosh K. Kurinec is a Professor of Electrical & Microelectronic Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).  She received Ph.D degree in Physics from University of Delhi, India.  Prior to joining RIT, she taught at Florida State University, Tallahassee, post doc at University of Florida, Gainesville.  She is a Fellow of IEEE, Member APS, The New York Academy of Sciences, and an IEEE EDS Distinguished Lecturer.  She received the 2012 IEEE Technical Field Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching.  Her current research activities include nonvolatile memory, photovoltaics, advanced integrated circuit materials and processes.
