Carbon-Free Power Generation

October 10, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Michael Armenia will speak on the Future of Nuclear Energy from the perspective of Generation IV reactors, especially the class of Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs). These were invented in the Manhattan Project and shelved for lack of military utility and for political reasons.  MSRs, in particular the thorium-fueled MSR were recently highlighted by Dr. James Hanson as practically “our last chance” to save the planet from the effects of climate change and population growth.

Mr. Armenia will trace the largely unknown history of MSR reactor development and discuss its attributes favoring the medical community, process industries, fresh water desalination, synthetic fuels, nuclear weapons NON-proliferation, and the solution to nuclear waste past and future.

The concept of geo-engineering CO2 out of the atmosphere is now reaching the public arena while at the same time solar and wind renewables are being oversold as the solution to everything.  Mike believes it is time for engineers of all disciplines to come together as a political force to explain the engineering options to legislators and the public for the benefit of our grandchildren – and encourage them towards STEM careers for the benefit of humanity.
