Considerations of Antenna Simulation and Measurement: Hosted by CT PELS and APP/MTT/UFFC
March 13 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
The Connecticut Power Electronics Soceity (PELS) and joint chapter on Antennas and Propagation, Microwave Theory and Techniques, and Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control are pleased to bring you an exciting webinar presented by Charlotte Blair and Brian Walker on antenna simulation and measurement. Topics such as measurement fundamentals with a VNA are discussed as well as topics such as measuring gains and shielding effectiveness.
Charlotte Blair of Ansys will begin the event by presenting on the key considerations when simulating antennas.
Brian Walker of Copper Mountain Technologies will present on the theory and technical considerations when making measurements with a VNA.
Speaker(s): Brian Walker, Charlotte Blair
Agenda:
John Noon, chair of the CT PELS chapter will begin the webinar with brief opening remarks.
Charlotte Blair of Ansys and chair of the CT APP/MTT/UFFC chapter will then present on the challenges and key considerations when simulating antennas.
Then, Brian Walker of Copper Mountain Technologies will present on the topic of antenna measurements. Brian's presentation outline is as follows:
– Common Antenna Parameters
– Radiation Pattern
– Gain
– Near and Far Fields
– Impedance
– Bandwidth
– The VNA measurement device
– What is it?
– How does it work?
– Why do we need it?
– Measuring Antenna Gain
– Ref Antenna
– Three Antenna method
– Near and Far Fields
– Return Loss, VSWR and Bandwidth
– “Hot” Antenna Measurement
– What kind of VNA is needed?
