Discovering and Analyzing Power Grid Dynamics Through Measurements

The growth of inverter-based resources in Dominion Energy’s network has introduced unprecedented reliability issues, making it challenging to operate the system. Conventional simulation studies cannot examine and foresee such problems due to a lack of accurate dynamic models, leaving measurements on the grid as the only hope. This talk will introduce Dominion Energy’s use of synchrophasor measurements to gain insights into the underlying system’s dynamic performance. Furthermore, the challenges faced when working with real-world measurements will be highlighted.
