Load Modeling for Power System Dynamic Studies

May 13, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Load modeling has been known to be a challenging and yet a critical task for transmission planning studies. Load modeling has evolved considerably over the past many years, starting from the usage of the ZIP load models to the present industry-wide initiative to adopt the composite load model. The composite load model is the latest version of the load model and can represent a wide variety of end
use consumer loads. However, using this model requires and understanding of the individual components and good engineering judgement. This technical talk will provide a background on load modeling, cover different aspects of the composite load model, and provide some insights on how this model is to be used for transmission planning dynamic studies.
