Green Mountain Section Year End Awards
December 3, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for our virtual year end event where we will hand out our Section awards and hear an exciting talk from Aline McNaull.
Aline staffs IEEE-USA’s research and development policy committee, the committee on aerospace and transportation, as well as the energy policy committee. In her role, she develops policy initiatives and advocates for robust funding in the areas of energy, aerospace and research & development working with Congress and the Administration to advance a legislative agenda that benefits the research and technical community. She represents IEEE-USA’s interests within the broader STEM policy community through the Task Force on American Innovation, Coalition for National Security Research, the Energy Sciences Coalition, and the Coalition for National Science Funding. Prior to getting involved in STEM policy, she was a semiconductor engineer at Raytheon and a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Last year Congress passed a comprehensive energy bill aimed at modernizing the electric grid, providing funding for renewable energy research and development, addressing energy storage issues, increasing access to new nuclear power sources, recycling and reusing critical minerals, strengthening carbon capture capabilities and improving federal tech transfer and industry partnership programs. This talk will discuss this latest bill and provide an overview of IEEE-USA activities in energy policy. Of particular interest to IEEE-USA’s energy policy committee are issues relating to the grid. Modernizing the grid will require improving both physical and cyber security as well as increasing access to renewable and nuclear energy sources. I will provide an overview of how IEEE-USA works with Congress and the Administration to address these challenges.
