Grid Stabilization STATCOM Technology

Thyristor based Static Var Compensator (SVC) technology has been around since the start of the 1970’s. The thyristor-based technology provided excellent reactive power compensation, however much of the design was based around the system harmonics and the harmonics produced by the SVC itself. After many years of being the number one parallel compensation technology there has been a shift since around 2008 to the newer STATCOM or Static Synchronous Compensators technology.
