High Voltage Direct Current Systems – Overview and Current Applications

High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems have been in operation around the world for decades. HVDC has historically been used for bulk, long distance power transfer, however with advances in technology and application it is now a key tool in transitioning the transmission system to accommodate increasing onshore and offshore renewable resources. This presentation will focus primarily on Voltage Source Converters, discussing the principles and capabilities of the technology and opportunities for implementation.
