LEGAL ISSUES FOR ENGINEERS & PROFESSIONALS IN RESEARCH AND CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT

IEEE USA Princeton Central Jersey and Fox Rothschild LLP – Princeton jointly present a seminar on issues that are common in business environment. Engineering Projects and Contract Issues

Engineers deal with external projects on a daily basis, whether outsourcing a project to a third party provider, bidding a contract from a government agency, or selling a product, or even issuing a purchase order. This seminar discusses various legal issues involved in preparing and executing an engineering project or a sales contract, such as Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA), contract, project specification writing, sales and warranties, and agency relationship. The intended audience will include engineers, engineering managers and business executives.

Protecting Intellectual Property

 A company’s intellectual property assets include patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. This seminar covers the laws for each type of intellectual property, the distinctions between them, how to obtain, how to protect, and how to enforce each type of intellectual property rights. This seminar will also cover substantive topics in patents, such as the basics of patent law and the impact of America Invents Act (AIA) on inventors and patentees, IP strategies for a successful business, selecting between publishing and patenting, evaluating a patent, working with patent attorneys or agents, filing a U.S. provisional patent application electronically, and common pitfalls in patent prosecution and licensing. The intended audience will include engineers, engineering managers, and business executives.

Business formation, Laws and Regulations in Business Operations, and Professional Ethics

This seminar covers the formation of different business entities such as corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and professional corporations, and tax considerations and business operations associated with each type of entity. This seminar will also discuss various legal issues in the operation of a business, such as labor law, worker’s compensation, employment discrimination, safety and product liability. This seminar will also discussprofessional ethics rules including federal and state registrations laws and NPSE code of ethics for engineers. The intended audience will include business managers, human resource professionals and small to large business owners.
