Mass Energy Storage: Applications and Design Considerations

October 28, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Co-sponsored by: Ken Oexle

New York is leading the way by planning to add 2.2 GW of Battery Storage to the NY State Electric Grid by 2021, New Jersey is not far behind.  This seminar will discuss the applications for which large storage battery systems make economic sense, and/or solve a technical issue created by renewables; the design considerations of large battery storage systems; analysis, implementation and maintenance of the coming wave of battery installations both “in front of and behind the meter.”

Large scale battery storage systems for energy demand management, peak energy shaving and shifting, capacity deferments, “firming” of renewables, creation of Micro-Grids:

  1. Market and Technology Overview
  2. Feasibility Analysis
  3. Design considerations
  4. Battery and Balance of Plant technologies
  5. Installation, Service, Maintenance, retirement

Speaker(s): Jim McDowell, Amy Simpkins

Agenda:

The seminar fee includes lunch, refreshments and handouts.  Non-members joining IEEE within 30 days of the seminar will be rebated 50% of the IEEE registration charge.

Four hours of instruction will be provided.  If desired, IEEE Continuing Education Units (0.4 CEUs) will be offered for this course – a small fee of $45 will be required for processing.
