Robotics and Automated Systems
December 21, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am
I’m sending this to the entire group for information about a meeting where access is usually limited to Town of Huntington residents with a Senior Citizen card. For residents, the card can be obtained at the Senior Citizen Center. The process takes about 5 minutes and requires identification such as a driver’s license. We usually have non-residents attending as guest speakers or panelists. If you would be available as a panelist, let me know. The role of a panelist is to participate in discussions. As a member of the Robotics and Automation Society Chapter, your opinions are considered valuable, particularly with respect to programs.
I hope you are all well. Welcome to our last meeting of 2023 at the Huntington Senior Center on Thursday, December 21th at 1:30 PM in Room 214. We will attempt to continue at the same time and location on a monthly basis during 2024.
Please confirm your interest in continuing as a member of our group, whether you will attend the 12/21 meeting, your preferred email address and any other information about your interests. Also mention anyone else you know who was a member or would like to join us. I am going through our prior sign in sheets as well. I am a bit rusty and slower and need assistance in continued organizing.
A current area of interest is Robotics and Automation. Several of us have organized an LI Chapter of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and we have purchased several educational robots. We put on several robotics workshops for children at the Harborfields Library and we plan to bring them to other libraries. When mentioning it to Julia Frangione, she thought it would be a great workshop to present to other Seniors at the Center. It would be in addition to our regular meetings. We can continue discussing this at our meetings..
The agenda I am planning for our meeting is as follows:
1:30-2:00pm – each person attending will spend very few minutes bringing us up to date on their activities.
2:00-2:30pm – we will review the topics covered throughout 2023 and select those most deserving of followup. I plan on sending a summary to the members prior to the meeting.
2:30-3:30pm – we will decide on topics and projects to be pursued during the first quarted of 2024.
3:30-4:00pm – – we will prepare specifications for projects to be carried forward and organize project teams.
We are considering a Zoom connection for those with interest and concern who cannot attend in person.
Feel free to ask additional questions.
The Huntington Town Senior Citizens Center, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743. It is on the South West side of the intersection of 25A and Park Ave. It is a converted school and the first part of the building is leased to the Cinema Arts Center. The Main road to the building is off Park Ave, South of the intersection. The entrance to the building is past the Cinema Arts Center and it is well marked. The entrance to the meeting area is on the West side of the building and is covered with a Maroon canopy. We will be in Room 214, immediately to the right of the entrance.
I strongly recommend that everyone read through the details of earlier announcements and attachments and respond by stating their personal interests. We form our programs in response to those statements.
We express our thanks to the IEEE Long Island Section for supporting the establishment of Engineers Clubs, the staff of the Huntington Senior Center for providing us the opportunity to use meeting rooms and the wonderful support they have provided.
I wish everyone good health and thank you all for your contributions to our collective effort.
Agenda:
Review efforts during the year and discuss most effective ways of creating interest in Robotics and Automation among pre university students.
