RWU Computer Science Senior Design Fall Presentations

December 12, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

YYou are invited to attend the Roger Williams University Computer Science Senior Design Team Fall Semster presentations of their AY 2023-2024 year-long capstone project on December 12th 2023 at 2:00 PM Eastern. The Fall Semester focused on Analysis and Design. Presentations will begin at 2:10 and each is about 20-25 minutes in length. The order of presentations is listed below and a Zoom link is provided for remote access. Times are approximate

2:10 Implementing Hybrid PSO Global Optimizer: This is a research effort being undertaken by Dr. Bhandari. Several aspects of the problem include understanding and implementing a mathematical model. Once understood, implementing that model becomes a coding effort involving translating current C++ algorithms into Python that is understandable and maintainable. The end goal is to be able to use the machine learning models in real-world problems. Client: Dr. Bhandari. Team Members: Matt Davidson, Danh Le, Athena Morrisett, Lauren Moulaison

2:40 Industry-Friendly Application for Predicting Design Values of Wood Layers in Timber Panels. This is a research effort being undertaken by Dr. Kurzinski in Construction Management. She developed a model that predicts design values for composite wood products. But, since each layer may be a different material with its own properties there is no single calculation that predicts how it will function in a particular design. While there is a mathematical model that works with a theoretic dataset. The goal of this project to confirm the accuracy of the model with other datasets, find more efficient ways to implement the model and then determine sensitivity analysis of results based on variations within the data. There are numerous opportunities in this area as it is an intersection of Construction Management, Forest Conservation, and Structural Engineering. Client Dr. Kurzinski. Tam Members: Donovan Dunning, Tyler Edwards, Aidan Ventresca

3:10 Advising Assistant. This is the second year of the project for Dr. Anderson of the CM program. The team last year developed an interface that allowed a student to work with an advisor to layout more than just the next semester and then be able to adjust based on which courses were actually taken. One of the goals of this project is to somehow get actual data downloaded to b able to compare what was projected against what was actually taken across multiple semesters. It is unlikely to have an upload ability, so the actual semester being planned would still need to go through RogerCentral. Client: Dr. Anderson. Team Members: Dorothy Arriola Flores, Matt Costa, George Khramtchenko

3:40 Indoor localization: This is under the direction of Dr Ramji (CM Program) and Dr Cates. They are on sabbatical but have agreed to sponsor this effort. This project is defined to leverage Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Angle of Arrival (AOA) technology and AI for building a solution that finds the accurate locations of equipment/people in indoor spaces carrying BLE tags. This project involves mostly backend development and creating machine learning models. Although students will be working with BLE gateway/locator and tag hardware, no machine/device coding is needed in this project. The devices are already programmed to send data through an IoT network; the goal of this project is to consume the data to find the accurate location of BLE tags. Clients Dr. Cates and Dr. Ramaji. Team Members: Hank Bailey, Will Bailey, Sarita Poudyal Bhandari

4:10 Mobile App development for TwinUp: This is under the direction of Dr Ramji (CM Program) and Dr Cates. They are on sabbatical but have agreed to sponsor this effort. This project aims at the development of a mobile application for the TwinUp platform. TwinUp is a web-based digital twinning platform for the operation of commercial buildings. This project mostly involves UX/UI design with little-to-no backend development. The web-based responsive application of the platform is already available, and the goal is to leverage the existing APIs for the development of a mobile app (from the starch) that improves the experience of working with the platform on smartphones. Clients: Dr. Cates and Dr. Ramaji. Team Members Maeve Kenny, Eugene Onchagwa, Brett Ramella

4:40 RWU Parking App. The intent is to have a ‘proof of concept’ app that shows where parking is available and which lots are full in real time. It may be linked in to some larger effort which would allow monitoring by Public Safety. It needs to be adaptable to variations for special events, as well as adaptable to a Master Plan the campus has that covers the next 5 years which will impact on campus parking. Client Ms. Tobin, Dr. Ruocco. Team Members: Ricky Botelho, Hirwa Ishimwe, Connor Mulberry, Isaac Nsiah.

Anthony Ruocco is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
