Seacoast Reliability Project: The Crossing of Little Bay

The Seacoast region of New Hampshire is one of the fastest growing areas of the state. To meet this load growth, Eversource recently completed the installation of a new 13-mile 115kV transmission line connecting their existing Madbury and Portsmouth substations. This project involved the construction of both overhead and underground segments and included a 1-mile crossing of the tidal estuary, Little Bay. This presentation will focus on the underground segments of the project. Technical details of the cable system components including the construction methodology used to cross the water as well as a trenchless construction method used to cross an elevated city street in Durham will be discussed.
