Second generation of Fiber To The Home and expected evolutions: an operator point of view
Dr. Philippe Chanclou, Manager of Fixed Access Networks, Orange Labs, France
About the Talk
Passive Optical Network (PON) is now a mature technology to serve Fiber To The Home (FTTH). This technical and market maturity (copper replacement) for G-PON (Gigabit-capable PON) is now followed by a second generation with more line rate (10 Gigabit/s) and more software functions with interfaces and engines modern management. In parallel with this generation evolution, the PON maturity makes it possible to enhance the capabilities of optical fiber for other network segments such as Fiber To The Campus or Fiber To The Room. And of course, we must also enlighten the third generation to ensure the sustainability of the investment in fiber optic infrastructure.
About the Speaker
https://www.linkedin.com/in/philippe-chanclou-6aa1aa7/Dr. Philippe Chanclou received D. and Habilitation degrees from Rennes University, France in 1999 and 2007 respectively. He joined the R&D facilities of France Telecom in 1996. In 2000, he joined the University of ENST-Bretagne (now IMT Atlantique) as a senior lecturer. During 2001 to 2003, he has participated to the foundation of Optogone Company. Since 2004, he joined Orange Labs where he is now manager of Fixed Access Networks team. This team is active about delivery, standardization and research concerning FTTx topics for Home, Enterprise, and Antenna (including backhaul, midhaul, fronthaul). This team drives international standards of G-PON, 10G-PON, NG-PON2, and 50G-PON. His work explores optical system applications in wireless transport networks and access system power saving. Dr. Chanclou is an IEEE senior member. He received the SPIE Rudolf Kingslake Medal and Prize in 2007.
