The Future of Conferences

Virtual conferences (conferences that are completely online) and hybrid conferences (with a mixture of in-person and online attendees) have become popular since the start of the Covid pandemic. But the new conference modes are not just a pandemic stopgap – they can also be an opportunity to start new conferences at low cost or to broaden the participation of existing conferences.
Each community has a different approach on the future of their conference portfolios. New conferences can start as virtual and move to other models as the community grows. To improve the experience, it is useful to add events that mimic what is missing from in-person conferences, such as mentoring sessions, online games, coffee breaks, and an opportunity to meet a community superstar.
