Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics Disinformation
As Abraham Lincoln famously said, "Don't believe everything you read on the internet." During this presentation, we'll define terms and review how mis- and dis-information are being used to perpetrate fraud, abuse the stock market, harm people's health, influence elections, and topple governments (plus make it harder to have rational conversations about current events with your great uncle Lou!). We'll also look at the role of artificial intelligence and then possible ways to identify mis- and dis-information. This should be an interesting, if a bit scary, discussion!
