The monthly Rochester IEEE Executive Committee meeting brings together all of the leaders of the Section, Chapters, and Groups. ExCom members: Please send your updates on past and upcoming events to (mailto: [email protected]) to be included on the agenda prior to the meeting. We review plans for upcoming Rochester meetings within our Section, Chapters, and groups at this meeting. If you are looking to become more engaged in IEEE in the Rochester Section, please plan on attending an Excom meeting! Roman Sobolewski is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as a Senior Scientist of Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester. He received his Ph.D. and DSc (Habilitation) degrees in Physics from the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warszawa, Poland, in 1983 and 1992, respectively. His current research interests are concentrated on ultrafast phenomena in condensed matter, novel nanostructured electronic and optoelectronic semiconducting and superconducting materials and devices, single-photon quantum detection and quantum communications, and on generation and detection of THz radiation transients and time-resolved THz spectroscopy. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed publications and presented well over 200 invited conference talks, lectures, seminars, and colloquia worldwide. Professor Sobolewski will be presenting information about his current research in Terahertz Photonics. This is a rapidly developing section of technology that combines both Electrical Engineering and Optical principles. Its applications range from ultrahigh-speed communications to medical imaging and diagnostics, industrial quality control, and security screening. No prior knowledge is needed to attend, come to learn, and ask questions about the research topic and general research-oriented topics!
